Everyone needs food. Growing population increases food demand of the country. The potential for food exports is also on rise. Increased purchasing pourer on account of economic growth further triggers the food demand.
In olden days the production and consumption of food was mainly in the same family. Processing was limited too. Now the production, processing and consumption are taking place in different locations. Food therefore changes hands, travels distance and attains different forms and varieties and thus gains value-addition. In this context food processing catering and Packaging attains great importance. The sector has thus become a growing business arena that requires specialized teduxilogies, safety requirements and marketing skills.

Kerala is blessed with abundant natural resources that provide many useful raw materials required for several industries. Food processing is a sector, which can contribute towards the rapid economic development of the State. It comes next to Information Technology industry and provides employment, especially to rural women in Kerala. There is urgent need to explore new technologies and markets and tap the emerging opportunity to ensure a rapid growth in this sector. While large scale food processing can be meant for exports, the small scale and tiny sector have great scope for capturing the local markets.
For wooing the technological advancements around the world to our Food Processing Industry, Kerala needs a very focused and growth-oriented approach suited to our own State. To survive in the changed competitive economic order, the sector has to continually upgrade itself. The success will depend on how correctly we do this to take our Food Processing Industry to next level.
In this context KSSIA, in association with CMA & FOOD PRO, is organizing the International Food Expo Kozhikode 2014.The event will expose the existing and potential entrepreneurs to the emerging technologies and machineries in the Food Processing & Allied Sectors. It will also give hints on the potential food products that have opportunities in the food.
